Cambodia

From War and Hardship to Warmth and Perseverance

Cambodia is a must-visit for Angkor Wat temple complex (one of the seven wonders of the world), its rich history, and welcoming culture. The capital, Phnom Penh, offers a deep dive into the country’s dark past, while laid-back islands like Koh Rong provide incredible beaches that are still much less touristy than their Thai neighbors.
The people have overcome a history of hardships and now are some of the most welcoming and friendly in all of Asia. Although still developing as a top travel destination, Cambodia is quickly becoming a can’t miss visit in Southeast Asia. It pairs perfectly with Vietnam and Thailand, making for an incredible Southeast Asian adventure.

Why

Cambodia’s Khmer culture is one of the oldest in the world. Their heritage was never taken over by the Indians, Chinese, or Mongolians much like other countries in Asia. The biggest reason to visit Cambodia is to learn about the history of the region, in part by visiting one of the most well-known historical sites in the world: Angkor Wat. Additionally, the 1900s was an extremely turbulent time for the Khmer, who lost almost 1/3 of their entire population in war times. Learning their history can help us to avoid repeating it in the future.

Where

Located in a perfect little quadruple of fascinating countries; to the east of Thailand, south of Laos, and West of Vietnam. Cambodia is mostly flat and full of traditional farms, with the Mekong Delta in the north and the Gulf of Thailand to the South.

How

Overland adventures! Fly into Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, and explore by jeep, bus, vespa, or even ox cart! Access gorgeous islands in the south by ferry.
