Vietnam

Outdoor adventure meets rich culture

Vietnam has incredible outdoor marvels like the limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay, the famous rice fields in the mountains of Sa Pa, and the weaving streams of the Mekong River. Travelers come from all over to see the country’s natural beauty.
Vietnam’s big city life also doesn’t disappoint. You can also witness the French influence of incredible food and architecture in cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hà Nội. Both offer a chance to learn about Vietnam’s incredible history as well as enjoy world-class nightlife. Vietnam can be paired perfectly with a trip to Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, or China.

Why

This long, tropical country has a lot of stories to tell. The Northern, Central, and Southern regions are each distinct in their cultural practices, landscape, and personal identities, each worth exploring for their own reasons. The north is where the best adventures and most unbelievable landscapes are– think Avatar-like mountain ranges and rock formations, hiking meccas, and motorcyclist’s dreams. Central Vietnam is steeped in history and boasts traditional palaces, decked-out mausoleums, and the cutest trading port city. And it isn’t lacking in adventures to be had either– the largest cave system in the world is located here. Head to the South for the most modern city in the country, offering recent history lessons one shouldn’t miss, just a short distance away from the Mekong Delta and flat rural lands, the perfect place to get to know the agriculturists. And if you’re a foodie, Vietnam is one of the places to go.

Where

Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia, bordered by China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, and the South China Sea to the east. It stretches along the eastern coast of the Indochinese Peninsula, offering a diverse landscape of mountains, beaches, and lush countryside.

How

If you’re a true adventurer and have plenty of time, hop on a motorbike and have the experience of a lifetime. You’ll find perfectly rideable roads all throughout the country. Cars won’t make it through many of these villages, but if you’re planning just to get around central hotspots, it’s recommended to hire a driver who can help you navigate the bike-filled streets. When going long distances, the most unique transport method is the luxury buses, which offer full-sized beds and all the amenities of a traveling hotel. If you’re not up for that, flying is also a perfectly good option.
