Sri Lanka

Why

Sri Lanka is a gorgeous green island with some of the prettiest beaches I’ve ever seen and a lot to discover.

With the north and south distinctly different, you can gain a wealth of knowledge by visiting both. Visiting the dryer north will give you more insight on the Hindu heritage of the Tamils, while the south will privy you to lush nature parks, Buddhist traditions, and unique-to-Sri Lanka ceremonies.

If you’re a surfer, Sri Lanka is a must visit. Especially the south east.

Safaris are also common, but it’s important to go with the right companies to the right areas.

Where

Just off the southern top of India, Sri Lanka is the second largest island in the Indian Ocean after Madagascar.

How

The famous Ella train, which is said to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world, cuts straight through the country from Kandy to Ella. The train system also runs through other major regions of the country and can be useful, but more than likely you will want to hire a private driver.

If you’re looking for adventure, you can hire your own tuktuk and explore the island on your own three-wheels.
