After spending three action packed months in Peru, I wanted to share my top 5 best suggestions for things to do besides visiting Machu Picchu. Of course, don’t miss out on Cusco, Machu Picchu, and Aguas Calientes, but spice up you trip with the following activities too!
- Hike in Huascará National Park — stay in the city of Huaraz and do day hikes or amazing multi-day hikes (like the Huayhuash circuit!)
- Explore the Reserva National de Paracas — if this isn’t one of the best experiences of your life, you did it wrong ?. Gather some friends, rent some mopeds, and have the best day ever
- Stay the night on the island of Amantaní on Lake Titicaca — a cultural experience that will leave you feeling full and fulfilled
- Fly over the Nazca Lines — if you know me, you know I have a tattoo of one of the Nazca lines on the back of my arm. Visit these incredible geoglyphs, which you much fly over to actually take in
- See the condors in Colca Canyon — visiting Arequipa is a must anyway thanks to it’s stunning volcanic backdrop, amazing Spanish classes, and fantastic food scene. Take 2 – 3 days and hike into the Colca Canyon, one of the best places in the world to see condors in their natural habitat without disturbing them.
