Sri Lanka

Ancient Ruins and Pristine Beaches

Sri Lanka is a destination that offers a perfect blend of ancient history, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture. Known for its rich heritage, visitors can explore ancient cities like Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, where centuries-old temples and royal ruins transport you back in time. The sacred city of Kandy, home to the revered Temple of the Tooth, offers a deep dive into Sri Lanka’s spiritual traditions, while the colonial charm of Galle's old fort invites travelers to stroll through cobbled streets lined with historic buildings.
The island's natural beauty is equally impressive, with pristine beaches along the coast, tea plantations in the misty highlands, and wildlife sanctuaries like Yala National Park, where you can spot leopards and elephants in their natural habitat. Sri Lanka’s diverse landscapes provide ample opportunities for adventure, from hiking through rainforests and climbing Sigiriya Rock to surfing on the southern beaches. It pairs beautifully with neighboring destinations like the Maldives and India, offering a seamless mix of culture, adventure, and relaxation for an unforgettable journey.

Why

Sri Lanka is a gorgeous green island with some of the prettiest beaches I’ve ever seen and a lot to discover. With the north and south distinctly different, you can gain a wealth of knowledge by visiting both. Visiting the dryer north will give you more insight on the Hindu heritage of the Tamils, while the south will privy you to lush nature parks, Buddhist traditions, and unique-to-Sri Lanka ceremonies. If you’re a surfer, Sri Lanka is a must visit. Especially the south east. Safaris are also common, but it’s important to go with the right companies to the right areas.

Where

Just off the southern top of India, Sri Lanka is the second largest island in the Indian Ocean after Madagascar.

How

The famous Ella train, which is said to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world, cuts straight through the country from Kandy to Ella. The train system also runs through other major regions of the country and can be useful, but more than likely you will want to hire a private driver. If you’re looking for adventure, you can hire your own tuktuk and explore the island on your own three-wheels.
